Questions, answered.

Everything students, professors and mentors ask us about Nestwork.

General

The basics.

What is Nestwork?

Nestwork is a free campus community for pre-professional students. Each track (pre-med, pre-law and pre-nursing) gets its own community at your school, an opportunities board where professors post lab, research and clinical openings, and a mentor to help you plan prerequisites, exams, experiences and applications.

Is Nestwork free for students?

Yes. Joining the community, browsing opportunities and applying are free. An optional Nestwork Plus tier is planned for extras like one-on-one mentor sessions and application reviews.

How do I find research opportunities as a pre-med student?

Most undergraduate research and lab positions are found through word of mouth. On Nestwork, professors at your school post open lab spots, research roles and clinical opportunities directly to students on your track. You can filter openings and apply in one tap.

Which schools and tracks is Nestwork available at?

Nestwork launches first as Nestwork MD for pre-med students at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in Richmond, Virginia, followed by Nestwork Law and Nestwork Nursing on the same campus. More schools and paths will follow campus by campus.

How is Nestwork different from Reddit, Student Doctor Network or planner apps?

Forums are anonymous and national, and planner apps are single-track tools. Nestwork is campus-specific: real professors, real labs and real openings at your school, plus a community of peers on the same path and a mentor.

What does Nestwork do with my data?

Nestwork collects only what it needs to run your community and match you with opportunities, asks for clear consent, and never sells personal data. See our privacy policy.

What year should I be to join?

Any year. Freshmen benefit most from planning early, but sophomores, juniors, seniors and post-bacc or gap-year students are all welcome.

Do I need to go to VCU?

Nestwork MD launches first at VCU. Students at other schools can sign up now and we will let you know as soon as Nestwork opens on your campus.

How does mentor matching work?

Every student can be paired with a guide: a professor from their school or a Nestwork mentor who helps them plan prerequisites, exams like the MCAT or LSAT, clinical and research experience, and applications.

I signed up twice. Is that a problem?

No. We keep one sign-up per email and simply update it with your latest answers.

How do I post a lab or research opening?

Join as faculty and post an opening in a few minutes. It reaches motivated, organized students on your own campus who are already on the right track.

Is Nestwork free for faculty?

Yes. Posting openings and mentoring students on Nestwork is free for faculty.

How much time does mentoring take?

As much or as little as you choose. You set how many students you are matched with and how often you meet.
